Double over with laughter funny.”
— WSTV/WRKY

In a quiet New England college town, reclusive professor Peter Smedforson is perfectly content with his book‑filled, solitary life — until chaos arrives on his doorstep. His peaceful home, once owned by the elusive poet E.R. Lennox, suddenly becomes the centre of academic ambition, unexpected visitors, and delightfully off‑beat interruptions.

First comes Tammi, a free‑spirited former dancer from Atlantic City. Then Judith, a determined scholar chasing a long‑lost manuscript. And right behind her is Stewart — Judith’s conniving ex‑husband, armed with his own agenda and zero shame about it.

As secrets surface and motives collide, this witty, urbane comedy spins into a whirlwind of mistaken intentions, intellectual one‑upmanship, and wonderfully unexpected revelations. Academia Nuts is a fast‑paced farce that proves even the most bookish lives can be turned upside down — with hilarious results.

Meet the cast & crew

Headshot of actor Jodie Lonsberry from Saskatoon's dinner theatre Mini Fridge Theatre Company

Jodie Lonsberry

"Tammi"

Jodie Lonsberry is thrilled to be back on stage with Mini Fridge Theatre in Academia Nuts by Gregg Kreutz. A familiar face to Mini Fridge audiences, Jodie has previously appeared in Exit Laughing by Paul Elliott, Don’t Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti (adapted by Robin Hawdon), and several other productions that required impeccable timing, questionable choices, and at least one on‑stage nightgown. Over the years, she has played old ladies, maids, and a delightful fifty‑something who absolutely did not know what was happening — and leaned into it anyway.

Her love of theatre began in the University of Saskatchewan’s drama department and continued at the Off Broadway Dinner Theatre. Jodie is beyond excited to be part of this wonderfully chaotic cast and invites you to enjoy the comedy, the confusion, and the comforting reminder that academia may look polished on the surface but is gloriously unhinged underneath.

Lindsay_Adams

Lindsay Adams

"Judith"

Lindsay Adams is thrilled to be part of the talented cast of Academia Nuts for her second Mini Fridge Theatre Company production.

Previous Saskatoon stage credits include, Murder in the Wings! with Mini Fridge Theatre Company (2024), Southern Dandy 75 with Live Five Independent Theatre (2017), Two Corpses Go Dancing with Two Unruly Gentlemen Theatre at the Saskatoon Fringe Festival (2011), The Great American Trailer Park Musical with Off Broadway Dinner Theatre (2008), and Baba and Gido’s 50th Wedding Anniversary with Off Broadway Dinner Theatre (2007).

Off stage, Lindsay spends her days working as a social worker. Lindsay raises a glass to you for your support of local theatre and for bolstering your mental health with a night of good food and fun.

Cheers!

Larry_Parsons

Larry Parsons

"Peter"

Larry Parsons hasn’t been spotted on a stage in a decade. Once a semi‑regular face in Saskatoon community theatre, the Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, improv shows, and the odd Fringe production, this marks his first appearance with Mini Fridge Theatre Company.

You can hear his takes on art and film on the RanknReview podcast (www.ranknreview.ca).

Supporting local art and theatre has real value. Thanks for doing your part.

Joel_Walmsley

Joel Walmsley

"Stewart"

Joel Walmsley has been a comedian for a while. He’s performed small shows at big comedy festivals and even appeared on TV back in the ’90s — you probably don’t remember it, and he barely does.

He may be older now, but he’s still funny.

This is his first play with Mini Fridge Theatre Company.

Headshot of actor and director Rod Hutchinson from Saskatoon's dinner theatre Mini Fridge Theatre Company

Rod Hutchinson

Director

This is Rod’s fourth time directing for Mini Fridge Theatre Company, following Weekend Comedy by Jeanne & Sam Bobrick (2023), Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith (2023), and Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon (2024). He has also been seen on stage, most recently as the elderly butler Harris in last season’s We Must Kill Toni by Ian Stuart Black.

Enjoy the show!

Rose_Christie

Rose Christie

Stage Manager

Rose Christie is happy to be working on her third Mini Fridge Theatre Company show — and her first backstage.

She previously appeared in Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon and We Must Kill Toni by Ian Stuart Black, and hopes to take part in many more productions in the future.

Murder at the Howard Johnson’s

A weekend getaway takes a wildly unexpected turn in Murder at the Howard Johnson’s, where a love triangle turns into a three‑way standoff inside one very unlucky motel room. When Arlene, her lover Mitchell, and her husband Paul each decide the others are better off dead, their plans unravel into a chain of spectacularly misguided murder attempts. Sharp, silly, and packed with physical comedy, this farce turns one ordinary night into a cascade of outrageous surprises.

Howard Johnsons Event Promo

“Enough laugh lines, mirth provoking situations and extravagant sight gags to outfit two rapid fire farces of the absurd."
– Variety

Pack your bags for a stay at the Howard Johnson Motor Inn — where the beds are lumpy, the tempers are hot, and murder is always suspiciously close at hand. In this razor sharp comedy of errors, a messy love triangle erupts into three increasingly outrageous attempts at homicide, each more ridiculous than the last.

Arlene wants passion. Mitchell wants Arlene. And Paul? He just wants to make it out alive. As schemes unravel and alliances shift, no one can quite manage the perfect crime — but everyone is determined to try.

What follows is a riotous night of betrayal, backstabbing, and killer laughs. With extravagant sight gags, rapid fire dialogue, and absurd twists at every turn, this madcap farce keeps the chaos coming. It’s a big, bold, physical comedy — the kind of gleeful mayhem that plays beautifully in a room full of people ready to laugh together.

** Pre-sale for MFT Season Pass Holders begins March 16 and ends March 29 @ 6pm. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 30. **
